My start in the Applied Arts began at David Albrecht Inc., in Manhasset, NY. Exposure and involvement as a professional artisan came within the upholstery and drapery industry. It was the tactile feel of woven goods, the visual designs of printed fabrics that became subliminally imprinted.
I grew up in N.Y.C. during the fifties, sixties, seventies, attending York College, earning a BSc in Geology. Upon graduating I moved to Canada, first working in the mining industry then returning to the upholstery business in Rossland, BC. There I opened Albrecht Interiors Upholstery, along with teaching classes at Selkirk College’s Continuing Education program and Trail SD #20. Maintaining a “Rag” trade pursuit I moved back to N.Y.C., followed by a stint in Washington DC, and finally living again on the West Coast for the past 37 years.
After 60 years of craftsmanship, loving the world through maps, geology, and the Art of Silk Screening, I’ve created individual prints and printed upholstered works. In my studio I’ve extended the Applied Arts into wood, and steel. You can find me in my studio on Denman Island where I have enjoyed the last 15 years.
